See what we are up to

Welcome! We hope you enjoy this site and that it gives you a taste of what we are doing On Eleuthera Island. Eleuthera is one of the many Bahamian Islands and is located 255 miles east of Miami, FL.

We are working with Bahamas Methodist Habitat here on the Island. They are known for their caring hearts and desire to help those in need. We are glad to be here working with them, As we have updates and photos about our experiences, we will post them here.

As you enjoy our photos and updates, please pray for us and the people of Eleuthera. It is our greatest hope that above all else that Christ is made known to those we work with and in our own lives.

New Friend

I met a new friend (several actually) while I was in Eleuthera. Cameron King is Jack King's first cousin. Cameron lives in Knoxville and we know many of the same people. She has a beautiful spirit and a heart for service. She is also a pilot, pretty cool. Cameron is a long term volunteer for Methodist Habitat on Eleuthera, she will be there when we are in March. She is keeping a blog about her own experience, and I have really enjoyed reading it. I though some of you might enjoy it too. http://cameron-king.blogspot.com/

Snorkeling Gear

Jane Currin and I had the chance to snorkel one afternoon for a couple of hours. It was amazing! We just walked in right off the beach and discovered Finding Nemo in real life. Thankfully each day that we are working we will have a little beach time at the end of the day. What a great way to cool off and relax.

Bahamas Methodist Habitat has asked us to consider bringing our own snorkeling gear and then leaving it for other groups to use (admittedly, the gear they have is in pretty rough shape). I think this would be a great idea for our group. I imagine that if you do a little searching you might be able to find some end of the season clearance snorkeling gear. It doesn't have to be top of the line stuff. Anything will be better and more than what they already have. Here are a few online options:

There are LOTS of other sites out there. If you find one that has great deals, please share. Also, you may find that some in town stores have some clearance gear. If you do, please share that too.

Just Got Back

Hello Spring Break Mission Team! I have set up this blog site to help keep you informed about our upcoming trip and eventually it will serve as a way for friends and family to see what we're up to and hopefully view pictures and video while we are actually on Eleuthera.

This past week I had the amazing opportunity to visit Eleuthera and I am so excited about what lies ahead for us. Eleuthera is a beautiful island with much need. Abraham McIntyre is the program director for Bahamas Methodist Habitat. Abraham said Eleuthera is just like Appalachia, only it has emerald waters instead of mountains. I think that is a great description. Jane Currin, youth director at Concord UMC, and I drove from one end of the island to the other and got a good feel for the people and geography. We are going to have a great time on Eleuthera, I promise and so does Abraham.

I will try to post regularly to keep you informed. You can choose to "follow" this blog and will get notifications when it is updated, or you can just check back when you have time.

Before I stop, I will leave you with a few photos to get you excited. As for you, please begin praying for our trip, that God will move in us and the people of Eleuthera even before we ever step foot on the plane to leave.
